Words are the means we use to express our ideas, plans, and thoughts. Through words, we communicate and make ourselves understood. If ideas and plans are not expressed, they remain as unspoken thoughts in the mind, unknown to others.

Living by the Word of God means living by His ideas, plans, mind and thoughts of God. But who can truly know the mind of God? Romans 11:34 asks, “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counsellor?”

1 Corinthians 2:11 tells us that only the Spirit of God knows the mind of God. The Holy Spirit is the one who understands God’s thoughts, plans, and mind. Since He knows them, He reveals them to us.

How does the Holy Spirit communicate to us the mind, the ideas and plans of God?

The Holy Spirit communicates God’s thoughts and plans through His Word. Living by the Word of God means living by the Holy Spirit , being guided by Him and being able to hear Him.

There are two kinds of the Word:

  1. The Written Word – This is the Bible, the Scriptures that we read.( Logos – The general message or word for everyone).

2.     The Spoken Word – God speaks through pastors, prophets, or directly to our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit (Rhema – A specific word spoken to an individual from the Logos. It is the personal message God speaks to you directly).

The Power of Every Word from God

Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

This means that every word from God gives us life. Each time God speaks, we receive nourishment for our spirit, soul. The Word of God is very important for us because our life depend on it. Speak more oh Lord!  Isaiah 55:10-11 compares the Word of God to rain coming down and snow they come to water the earth( ground). When God speaks, His Word comes with:

  • His Desire – To accomplish His pleasure and bring His will to pass.

  • His Purpose – To help us grow, mature, and be productive, just like the earth produces seed to sow and bread to eat.

In every blessing from God, there is both seed to sow and bread to eat. As steward of God we must always be able to separate the two ,each one for his purpose , don’t eat and the seed and the bread. We, as the ground, must receive the seed which is  the Word so that we may grow and bear fruit.

The Condition of Our Hearts

Luke 8:5-15 describes four types of ground, representing how people receive the Word of God:

  1. Wayside – The Word is trampled and eaten by birds. These are those who hear but quickly lose the Word as the enemy takes it away.

  2. Rocky Ground – The Word sprouts but withers due to lack of moisture. These people who hear and receive the Word with joy but have no deep roots. When temptations come, they fall away.

  3. Thorny Ground – The Word is choked by worries, cares of life, riches and pleasures of life. These people hear the Word but do not mature or bear fruit.

  4. Good Ground – Sprang up and yielded the crop . The Word takes root, grows, and produces fruit. Those who hear the Word with a noble and good heart, keep it, and bear fruit with patience.

Good ground bear fruit with patience because the seed have to go through the all process ,the farmers know very well and it require patience and nurturing  until you see the fruit .

The seed of the Word have  time to grow in us , and we must nurture it by dying to ourself and to all flesh and its desires and become alive in Jesus and stay attached to Jesus as the branches to the tree  than we will bear much its fruit in our lives.

Why Is the Word of God Important?

Just as our bodies depend on food, our spirits depend on the Word of God. “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)

Hearing the Word of God gives us faith. And  when we have faith ,we  please God. Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please Him.”

Only by hearing the Word of God that one can have faith in God. It is by faith that miracles happened in the life of people  and we children of God are called to walk by faith not by sight. Faith remove doubt and fear in us , because the one we believe in is the God who can do all thing and he only ask us to believe , have faith in Him.

Living by the Word means becoming a good ground that hears and receives the ideas, plans, and mind of God , through the Holy Spirit. This gives us faith that brings  growth, maturity, and fruitfulness and prosperity.

We all hear the Word of God, but how do we receive it? Are we allowing our lives to be a good ground  that  bear fruit?  Each time God speaks, we live. Are you ready to live by His Word?
