The Spirit of the Lord Upon Us

Before Jesus started His ministry, He stood in the temple, opened the scroll, and read:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19 ESV)

This was the announcement of the beginning of His ministry. Jesus could not embark on His mission, the very purpose for which He was born, without the Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord was upon Jesus, anointing Him for His mission. And what was that mission? To proclaim liberty to the captives, restore sight to the blind, set the oppressed free, and declare the year of the Lord’s favor. Jesus' mission was all about serving people. Likewise, we cannot serve the people of God without the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Upon Us is for us to serve( Service)

Paul, who was once a persecutor of Christians, became blind when the Lord appeared to him. The Lord sent Ananias to pray for him, and Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit. From that moment, he began his mission, preaching to the same people he had once persecuted (Acts 9:15-20).

It was by the Holy Spirit that David became king. Samuel anointed him to rule over Israel, just as he had anointed Saul. However, due to Saul's disobedience, the anointing departed from him, ending his kingship. David found grace before God (1 Samuel 16:12).

David was just a shepherd, the youngest among his brothers, yet God chose him. It is not about our size, influence, capability, or renown—God anoints whomever He chooses.

In Judges 6:34, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, empowering him. Though he was from the weakest clan and the least in his family, God used him to destroy the altars of Baal and to deliver Israel from seven years of oppression and poverty. The Spirit came so that Gideon could serve as a warrior and save his people.

The Spirit of the Lord comes upon whomever He pleases. It does not choose a specific group or class of people, and it comes in its appointed time. The only requirement is our availability to Him, so He can use us as He desires. We do not dictate to the Holy Spirit what to do or how to do it; It is Him and His way, we must follow, obey, and submit ,do as He want ,His will and not ours.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Power

Since the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of power, we must remain under it, not above it. That is why we must be baptized in the Spirit which means  immersed , fully covered in water, the symbole of the Holy Spirit. Power is the ability to influence, control, cause change, and transform. We have received the Spirit that influences, changes, and transforms situations, matters, atmospheres, and people. Paul told Timothy: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7 MEV)

The Holy Spirit power to Transforms People

1 Samuel 10:6 (ESV) : “Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.”

When the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul, he was transformed into a different person and began to prophesy. Likewise, in Acts 3:1-3, Peter, once a simple fisherman, was transformed by the Holy Spirit. He became bold, preached powerfully, and healed and change the life of a lame man through the power of God.

The Holy Spirit power to Transforms Situations

Isaiah 32:15 (NKJV) :“Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is counted as a forest.”

Without the Spirit, change cannot happen. But when the Spirit is poured out, our barren, dry, and desolate circumstances will be transformed into fertile, abundant fields. Even places that are already fruitful will overflow even more, like a thriving forest.

This power is in us because we have the Spirit. Whatever we touch will grow, whatever we plan will succeed, and we will progress from glory to glory.

Zerubbabel was anointed to complete the construction of the temple's foundation. No opposition could stop him because he was working by the Spirit, not by human might or power. Zechariah 4:6-10. We will transform mountain of our life or oppositions that stand to destroy our life, our family only by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Danger to serve the Lord without the Holy Spirit

Serving God without the anointing of the Holy Spirit is dangerous. It is like going to battle without being equipped, it is like going to war without being unleashed in the army. 2 Samuel 1:21, David cried over Saul, a mighty warrior who had fallen because his shield was not anointed, he was not cover, there was no protection for him and Saul was killed. Without the covering of the Holy Spirit, there is no protection, and we are exposed to spiritual and physical to danger.

It is the anointing of the Holy Spirit that grants us authority, covers us under the Lord protection and keeps us under the divine atmosphere that gives life  of Almighty God.
